Psychology and Stress Management

Psychology seeks to provide deeper levels of understanding to our conscious and subconscious behavior and thought patterns.  This process can have many layers and each of our psychologists meet you where you are, working with you as a whole person to help you achieve your goals.  Our psychologists utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), relaxation techniques including progressive muscle relaxation and meditation, alongside neuropsychotherapy, neurotheology,  and pastoral counseling as part of their larger holistic approach to health and healing.

We also use collaborative care interventions to help those with co-occurring disorders - patients who have concurrent diagnoses of mental illness and are working with challenges of addiction.

Neuropsychotherapy and Neurotheology

What is Neuropsychotherapy?

Neuropsychotherapy (NPT) is a term that summarizes and integrates neuro-scientific knowledge in a variety of applications and treatments. It uses evidence based neuroscience and neuropsychology to treat cognitive and emotional impairments. Counseling builds new brain networks. Neuroscience on the brain results in more complete awareness of how the environment and culture shapes the individual.

Five Basic Concepts:

1. Neuroplasticity

2. Neurogenesis

3. The Importance of attention and focus

4. Clarifying our understanding of emotions

5. Focusing on wellness and the positives

What is Neurotheology?

Also known as “spiritual neuroscience”, Neurotheology is the process by which science seeks to understand the relationship between brain science and religion; linking neuroscience with theological studies. Ultimately, to contribute to human knowledge, one must be able to find the intersection of science with specific religious traditions.  Neurotheology is the search for that missing link; the empirical study of the central nervous system, and subsequent psychological and psychological reactions, while one is working with the critical and rational analysis of a particular belief system pertaining to God.
